Brahma Vihara Ashrama monastry

The Brahma Vihara Ashrama (or Wihara Buddha Banjar) is the only buddhist monastry in Bali and is located near the village of Banjar, about 10 km southwest of Singasari-Kokokan.
The monastery is built on a hill and therefore offers a magnificent view over land and sea. It was built in 1970 by Bhikku Giri Rakhita, an important brahman converted to Theravada Buddhism, a form of Buddhism also practised in Thailand. Together with the Indonesian government Thailand has sponsored the construction of the complex, therefore mainly Thai decorations and a golden Buddha statue are presented.
